Personal Statement:
I am retired and available
for part-time and short-term assignments in my areas of specialization.
I spent 19 years as an
archivist, first at the National Archives in Washington, D.C., then at the U.S.
Holocaust Memorial Museum, also in Washington, D.C., and finally at the
National Archives regional branch in Seattle. But none of that was as fun as
serving as a costumed historical interpreter at the End of the Oregon Trail
Interpretive Center in Oregon City!
I have also worked as an editor
for the Utne Reader, RAIN: Journal of Appropriate Technology, the
California Office of Appropriate Technology, Willamette Week, CH2M Hill,
and Education Northwest.
I am co-author of Knowing Home: Studies for a Possible Portland (1981); author of Fruits of Creation: A Look at Global Sustainability
as Seen Through the Eyes of George Washington Carver (1995); author of a chapter
in Land and Power: Sustainable Agriculture and African
Americans (2009); and author of Finding Eden:
Visions of a Sustainable America, 1901-1980 (in progress).
